Minimal, purposeful, and calm.

Nakusu (無くす) /na·ku·su/

Japanese for “to eliminate” or “to remove”; a quiet ode to letting go and paring down.

Nakusu is a design brand rooted in the Japanese philosophy of simplicity and intentional living. Named after the Japanese verb meaning “to eliminate”, Nakusu embodies a minimalist and eco-conscious design ethos. The brand is dedicated to reducing clutter, waste, and excess – prioritising thoughtful, practical, and sustainable solutions.

Design Philosophy

Rooted in Japanese Zen and shaped through a Singaporean lens, Nakusu reflects a quiet clarity – minimal, purposeful, and calm.

Each piece is considered, intentional, and grounded – a balance of restraint and refinement, shaped by our context: compact spaces, thoughtful living, and a culture that values quiet order.

Nothing more, nothing less.

Sustainability

Nakusu’s commitment to eco-conscious design is reflected throughout every stage of the product’s lifecycle:

  • Material: Made from PLA (polylactic acid), a renewable and biodegradable bioplastic.
  • Interior: Lined with soft felt to protect contents – selected for its durability and lower environmental impact.
  • Base: Finished with natural cork, a sustainable material harvested without harming trees, offering a soft landing and non-slip grip.
  • Packaging: Minimal and recyclable – primarily paper-based materials like kraft and tracing paper, with little to no plastic, lamination, staples, or tape.
  • Production: 3D printed on demand in small volumes to reduce waste and avoid overproduction.
